The first nominations for the Hobey-Baker Trophy have been revealed in the NCAA and two Montreal Canadiens hopefuls are among the candidates.

The honor is given annually to the best hockey player in the NCAA.

This is the first portion of this ballot and there is an impressive contingent of 97 hockey players in the running. Among these, we find goalkeeper Jacob Fowler and forward Michael Hage.

The two Habs prospects are respectively representatives of Boston College and the University of Michigan.

Fowler has been burning the NCAA since the start of this campaign. The third round pick (69e in total) of the CH in the 2023 draft has maintained a record of 15-3-1, an efficiency percentage of .934 and a goals against average of 1.70 in 20 outings to date.

For his part, Hage amassed 11 goals and 13 assists for 24 points in 21 games in a Wolverines uniform. The first round pick (21e in total) at the last NHL amateur auction is playing his first season in the American university circuit.

Note also that Lane Hutson’s two brothers are also selected. Cole and Quinn play together at Boston University.

Finally, four Quebecers are in the running. They are Guillaume Richard (Collège de Providence), Félix Trudeau (Sacred Heart University), Gabriel Perreault (Boston College) and Sacha Boisvert (University of North Dakota).
