Confidence has returned to the Canadian locker room. The team has won 13 games in its last 17 games. Of the number, an impressive total of 10 were successful following a comeback from Martin St-Louis’ men and eight were after allowing the first goal. A new resilience which allows CH to fight for a place in the series. Here is a summary of the Habs’ 10 most recent victorious comebacks.

After trading four goals in the first period, CH saw the Red Wings take the lead at the start of the final third. A few minutes later, Arber Xhekaj chose the right moment to score his first goal of the season. Then, while Joe Veleno was in the penalty box for holding Lane Hutson, the young defenseman passed the puck to Patrik Laine, who scored on a one-timer.

5-1 win over Detroit

For this return match, Martin St-Louis’ troops conceded the first goal quickly, but the response was unequivocal. In five minutes and dust, Juraj Slafkovsky, Jake Evans and Laine hit the target. It was also the fifth power play success for number 92 in three games. Emil Heineman and Brendan Gallagher nailed the coffin for the visitors at the halfway point. In his second game with the CH, Alexandre Carrier was an accomplice to Evans, the latter being at the heart of a five-game streak with a goal.

Trailing 2 to 0 after 20 minutes, the Habs rolled up their sleeves against the Golden Knights, whom they had not defeated since 2021. Cole Caufield reduced the gap in the second to score his 100e goal in the NHL, before Heineman and a somewhat lucky Kirby Dach completed the comeback. Samuel Montembeault held down the fort with 27 saves, including 13 in the last twenty. It was the first time since March 2024 that the Canadian overcame a deficit of more than one goal to win.
Caufield plays the hero

Caufield played the hero by creating the tie, in addition to scoring in the shootout. At 13:25 of the third period, he took advantage of a nice pass from Nick Suzuki during a two-on-one run. Part of the credit goes to Evans, who caused an Avalanche turnaround in the defensive zone. In overtime, Jakub Dobes, in his second NHL start, stopped Artturi Lehkonen, who was spinning alone out of the penalty box. The young goalkeeper was then perfect in the shootout, while Caufield and Dach threaded the needle.

Having let the Canucks take a 3-1 lead at the start of the second, the CH regained a short lead thanks to Kaiden Guhle, Dach and Hutson. Even though Caufield allowed Vancouver to bring everyone back to square one by taking a stupid penalty late in the third, he redeemed himself by contributing to his captain’s winning goal in overtime. In the sequence, Hutson became the defender who most quickly collected 30 points (in 42 games) in the history of the Glorieux, surpassing Chris Chelios (30 pts in 45 duels 40 years ago).

After allowing the first goal to the Capitals during the initial engagement, Caufield, with his fifth goal in as many outings, and Josh Anderson, outnumbered, brought CH back on the right path. Lars Eller tied the score, but it was again Suzuki who closed the debate in overtime.

Dach scored a double and Hutson provided three assists in a game during which the Canadian came back twice thanks to Mike Matheson and Laine. It was the Finn’s first goal at even strength this season. Caufield also flashed the red light in Utah, where Heineman was struck by a vehicle while walking.

Dobes only left the Stars with crumbs after allowing a return to Jason Robertson, giving in on the fourth pitch. The Czech was then perfect, ending his evening of work with 32 saves. His performance gave confidence to his team as well as Slafkovsky, Alex Newhook and Joel Armia, who found the back of the net.

5-4 victory (overtime) against the Rangers

In this crazy match, the Canadian came from behind four times. In fact, the only time he had the lead was when Laine scored in overtime. Gallagher, Christian Dvorak, Suzuki and Slafkovsky responded in New York. For his first start at the Bell Center, Dobes seemed more nervous, but he stood up with confidence in front of Vincent Trocheck and Artemi Panarin in extra time. He is the fourth goaltender born outside of North America to win his first five NHL games.

3-2 win over Tampa Bay

Montembeault returned to victory with confidence. After giving in to Nikita Kucherov and Jake Guentzel in less than 23 minutes of play, the Quebecer gave nothing more to the Lightning’s guns, blocking 32 shots. He was able to count on Slafkovsky, Newhook and Evans to make up the deficit. By contributing to the Slovakian’s goal, Hutson extended his streak of games with at least one point to nine, tying the record for a first-year defenseman (Shayne Gostisbehere with the Philadelphia Flyers in 2015-2016).
