Ms. Julia Monar, Ambassador of Germany to Portugal, and Ms. Hélène Farnaud-Defromont, Ambassador of to Portugal met on January 22, 2025 to celebrate together Franco-German Friendship Day.

During this period of commemoration of the centenary of the birth of Mário Soares, the two Ambassadors made a joint visit to the Mário Soares and Maria Barroso Foundation, and spoke with the Director of the Foundation, Isabel Soares. Created in 1991, the foundation aims to promote democracy, cultural heritage and history of Portugal, drawing inspiration from the legacy of Mário Soares and Maria Barroso. Mário Soares maintained strong ties both with France, where he was in exile from 1970 to 1974, and with Germany, where the Portuguese Socialist Party was founded in 1973.

The Ambassadors then went to Café Joyeux. Café Joyeux is a French company, founded in 2018, which works to include people with disabilities. Café Joyeux has two establishments in Portugal, in Lisbon and Cascais.
