Florian Grill, current president of the French Federation, became angry and directly attacked the government on social networks. This follows the announcement of the budget reduction allocated to the Ministry of Sports on January 21.

Entangled in financial difficulties since the 2023 World Cup, the FFR and Florian Grill were forced to sound a “cry of alarm” so as not to further weaken the Federation.

This is a drop of around 100 million euros which is planned by the government. A considerable change for the president who had already started a major project to restructure everything. This Wednesday, January 22, he therefore reacted in an open letter on the social network Facebook, without tongue in cheek towards the executive.

In his press release, he denounces “a major injustice”, before expanding further: “Cutting 40% of the budget means sacrificing our clubs, our associations and access to sport for all. It ignores the role of sport in the fight against inequalities and public health challenges is to despise the millions of volunteers, educators and athletes who, every day, work for a better future.

“Sport in France is much more than simple physical activities, it is an irreplaceable social bond, […] a pillar of public health, […] a driving force for youth, […] national and international influence: Thanks to sport, France has shone,” he explains. Written to provoke a reaction and avoid endangering an entire body, the president of the FFR is surely awaiting a reaction from the government.
