In 2027, the Island Games must take place in the Comoros. In two and a half years, the archipelago should be able to welcome athletes from the Indian Ocean. To keep the calendar, the Comoros Island Games Organizing Committee (COJI) has just called on the international consulting firm INSYS. This Lyon-based company accompanied Mauritius for the 2019 JIOI.
The Comoros must host the Indian Ocean Islands Games in 2027. For this event, the archipelago must equip itself with the essential infrastructure to accommodate in good conditions athletes from the Seychelles, the Maldives, the French departments, the Mauritius and Madagascar.
After several months spent studying projects, the Comorian officials of the Games Committee have just turned to the company INSYS. This Lyon consulting firm, specializing in the organization of sporting events, sent Pascal Sordet to the site, writes La Gazette des Comoros.
The boss of this company, Léonard Dubreuil, was present for three days last week to finalize the agreement and carry out an inventory. He knows the subject perfectly. He accompanied Mauritius during the 2019 JIOI.
After an overview of the existing situation and the needs, the consultants are optimistic: “We are not ahead, but we are not, eitherlate,” writes Al-watwan.
In a long interview given to the information website, he specifies: “The Comoros must build the Games village, an Olympic swimming pool, tennis courts and an indoor gymnasium for basketball, handball and volleyball matches”among others. The specialist also underlines that the organizers have chosen, moreover, disciplines which will not require impossible investments: beach volleyball, badminton and kitesurfing.
-He announced his desire to work with the Comorian authorities so that the capital’s Football stadium meets Olympic standards, but also meets the specifications of the Confederation of African Football.
Furthermore, Léonard Dubreuil wanted to reassure the authorities about the importance of these investments for the future: “After the ten days of the games, we will ask ourselves what we are going to do afterwards. This notion of heritage is very important because it represents what you are going to leave to the population five, ten or twenty years after the organization of a sporting event.
The repercussions of this moment will last beyond the closing ceremony explains the consultant: “This legacy can be material, due to the fact that we are going to leave infrastructure to the Comorian people, who will have sports sites to develop sport and organize matches. But it is also intangible. It is about everything that we will leave after training, people who have worked in games and who have acquired experience and expertise”.
