An 11-year-old collector from Los Angeles managed to get his hands on a one-of-a-kind baseball card featuring National League Rookie of the Year Paul Skenes.
Topps announced Tuesday that the card, which features the Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher’s autograph and a patch from his game-worn uniform, had been found.
Since the announcement of the discovery, the young man has received some unsophisticated offers for the famous map.
If he’s willing to trade it to the Pirates, the kid could get a package that includes a season ticket behind the plate for 30 years at PNC Park.
Skenes’ girlfriend, gymnast and influencer Livvy Dunne, offers the card owner the opportunity to attend a match with her in a luxury box during one of Skenes’ starts.
-The card could have pretty high value elsewhere in the next few years given the potentially bright future of Skenes, 22, who also finished third in Cy Young Award voting after a stellar rookie season in 2024.
The 2023 No. 1 overall draft pick made his major league debut in May and had one of the most impressive rookie seasons in recent memory. Skenes was selected as a starting pitcher to the All-Star game after only eleven starts and finished the season with an 11-3 record with a 1.96 ERA in 23 games.
Skenes said this weekend that he hasn’t thought about the possibility of signing a long-term contract to stay in Pittsburgh, instead saying his goal is to help the Pirates be competitive in 2025.
