A framework agreement and a confirmation letter were signed in Abidjan, formalizing the designation of Côte d’Ivoire as host country for Afrobasket Féminin 2025. This signing marks a turning point for Ivorian sport, which confirms its status as a destination leader for major African competitions, after successfully hosting CAN 2023.
Côte d’Ivoire has been officially designated host country for the 27th edition of the Afrobasket Féminin, scheduled from July 25 to August 3, 2025. The framework agreement validating this decision was signed on January 17, 2024 in Abidjan between the ministry Ivorian Sports, FIBA Africa and the Ivorian Basketball Federation (FIBB).
SUCCEED AGAIN IN THE ORGANIZATION’S CHALLENGE
With the organization of this Women’s Afrobasket 2025, it is the first time that Côte d’Ivoire will host this major continental competition. During the ceremony, Dr. Alphonse Bilé, Secretary General of FIBA Africa, expressed his confidence in his country’s ability to meet this challenge. “We want this competition to become a benchmark. African women’s basketball has great potential and this edition will be different, better organized,” he said. The FIBB, chaired by Moussa Diarra, has already started preparations to build a national team capable of competing with the best nations. “We have identified our players in Ivory Coast, Europe and the United States. A first meeting with the European group is planned for February 9 in Paris. The objective is clear: to bring home a medal,” he declared. The final phases of Afrobasket Féminin 2025 will be held at the Palais des Sports de Treichville, in Abidjan. Already qualified, high-level teams like Nigeria, Senegal, Mali, Rwanda, Cameroon and Ivory Coast will compete for the continental title. After hosting the CAN 2023 or the Maracana World Cup, Ivory Coast confirms its attractiveness for major sporting competitions.
