While going through an internal crisis that would involve important players from the team’s core, the Vancouver Canucks came very close to trading forward JT Miller to the New York Rangers.
However, the transaction fell through for a reason that remains unknown, according to what Sportsnet network informant Elliotte Friedman reports in his most recent podcast 32 Thoughts.
Miller was also supposed to be left out by the Canucks for Saturday night’s game against the Edmonton Oilers, but he ultimately played in the game, collecting two assists in a 3-2 victory for his team.
“At some point during the day on Friday, it came very close to happening with the Rangers,” revealed the renowned informant. Miller was told it was imminent. Saturday morning, when I got up, I received messages asking me to check. Then something happened. I don’t know if it was Friday night or Saturday morning, but after the morning practice, there was nothing to indicate that he wouldn’t play in the evening. I waited all day and nothing changed.”
-Still according to Friedman, the 31-year-old American would not have asked the Canucks staff to be traded in the last few weeks. The latter reiterated everything to journalists after Saturday’s meeting.
“Whatever has to happen will happen. I don’t get into that. I’m a Canuck, today and tomorrow. I’m focusing on the next match,” he said.
Miller has 31 points in 35 games so far this season after recording campaigns of 99, 82 and 103 points.
He was a first-round pick of the Rangers in the 2011 auction and played 341 games before being traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2018.
