The police headquarters had imposed the closure of businesses from 8 p.m. since December 20 due to nuisance and incivility denounced by residents of the neighborhood.
The Paris police headquarters issued an order this Friday, January 17 to extend by one month the nighttime closure of businesses in the Château-d'Eau district, in the 10th arrondissement. The latter will remain forced until February 21 to close between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.
A decision which had already been applied since December 20 due to numerous reports of nuisance from local residents. The police headquarters emphasizes that these nuisances are caused by “abusive occupation of the public domain due to gatherings of people, sometimes alcoholics” and are accompanied by a “resurgence of criminal acts and significant disturbances to public peace” .
A reduction in nuisance
A report was published by the 10th arrondissement police station on January 14, noting improvements in the situation since the implementation of the nighttime closure of businesses.
“This shows a visible reduction in noise pollution in the evening, gatherings of alcoholic people and aggressive behavior, street sales and the presence of fences, the consumption and sale of narcotics, as well as stored waste in public spaces.”
-Residents also highlighted “the immediate and notable improvement in the quality of life in the area concerned as well as the reduction in noise pollution and incivility” since the nighttime closure was required.
The police headquarters underlines the importance of extending this obligation, given the fact that certain businesses have violated the prefectural decree (17 fines were issued) and that local residents have nevertheless noted the “persistence of nocturnal gatherings” in the neighborhood.
For their part, traders had already deplored a “collective punishment” having a negative impact on their turnover when this obligation was introduced.
