A suspect was arrested and placed in police custody this Saturday, January 18, after the attack on a jogger in Gard last week. “The investigations carried out by the Nîmes research section, with the support of the gendarmes of the Gard departmental gendarmerie group, led on Friday January 17, 2025 in the evening to the placement in police custody of an individual” explained Cécile Gensac, the public prosecutor of Nîmes. “This is a 25-year-old man, residing in the area where the facts were committed.” she adds.
A call for witnesses was launched
The jogger, aged 44, was attacked with a knife on Saturday January 11 during her sports session in a park in Vergèze, in the Gard. She then received numerous stab wounds to the back and throat. The presence of other witnesses at the time of the incident made it possible to scare away the attacker. Although his vital prognosis was initially serious, it has since stabilized.

The day after the attack, large numbers of gendarmes were deployed on January 11 and 12 around Vergèze, with 70 gendarmes, supported by aerial means, drones and helicopters, as well as dog teams.
The investigation, entrusted to the research section of the Nîmes gendarmerie, continues.
