We really need to start talking about the season of #13

We really need to start talking about the season of #13

I think we don’t talk enough about Cole Caufield.

Last year, we all criticized him because we expected more from him. And he still finished the season 23-24 with his best career tally, both in terms of goals (28) and points (65).

It’s not trivial.

But this year, we see a different Cole Caufield.

The small forward has a total of 43 points in 44 games since the start of the season and it seems that he has improved his game without the puck.

Eric Engels does well to point this out on Twitter.

I want to give love to #13. Are you ready?

Here we go !

Caufield, for 16 games (December 12), has collected 18 points, including seven goals.

He has been the Canadian’s top scorer since then, with Hutson (17 points) and Suzuki (16 points) following closely behind.

Caufield is ranked 31st in scoring in the entire NHL.

Last year, after 44 games, he only had 33 points on the clock… And he came in 85th among the most productive players in the league.

Caufield has scored 24 goals on 130 shots since the start of the season. Its success rate is 18.5%.

Last year, after 44 games, Caufield scored 14 goals on 159 shots. His success rate was 8.8%.

There is a crystal clear improvement in his game and it is beautiful to see. It was normal to think that the arrival of Laine would perhaps cause him some problems (especially on the power play)… But that is not the case.

Both are able to coexist on the ice and both are able to be productive on the powerplay even if they play together, which is interesting.

They seem to get along well, plus:

But what is striking is when we see Caufield being so good at five against five. 32 of his 43 points collected this season have been scored at even strength (he leads the CH in this regard too) and that changes the situation because he is constantly dangerous at the moment.

This was not always the case during the last campaign.

All this to say that there is no one in town who can be disappointed with Tit-Cole’s performance at the moment.

He plays to the height of his talent, he scores important goals… And we see how important he has been in Martin St-Louis’ training since the start of the season.

It feels good, because we know to what extent he has the tools to become one of the (very) good players in the NHL.

He’s only 24, after all!

– Oh. Reinforcement in Edmonton.

– Good point.

– Colleague Maxime Truman asked questions of Prince Owusu and Samuel Piette today. Here’s what’s catching your attention:

– Anyway.
