Rimouski strongman and twelve-time Canadian weightlifting champion, Denis Chassé, died on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday at his home at the age of 75.
A teacher at Cégep de Rimouski, Mr. Chassé was also a fitness trainer at Santé 2000 Le Club and at the CMS training center.
Denis Chassé has been a source of inspiration for hundreds, even thousands, of Rimouski residents in search of better physical shape.
Since the announcement of his departure, many people have paid tribute to this seasoned sportsman, appreciated for his kindness, his availability, his warm presence, his dedication and his exceptional intelligence.
Much appreciated legacy
Among these, Jean-François Caron, originally from Les Hauteurs and crowned champion of the title of Strongest Man in Canada eight times from 2011 to 2019, indicates that he was moved by the death of his friend and mentor.
“Last August, I had a long discussion with my friend Denis Chassé after giving him his personalized Strongman Circuit vest. He told me how training and competitions had given meaning to his life. I was moved when he told me how proud he was to have been able to pass on part of his knowledge to me. At the time, I didn’t know that this would be our last discussion. Denis has participated in dozens of powerlifting competitions in his life, setting numerous records and his anecdotes liven up our training sessions. Have a good trip my friend, all the strong men of Bas-Saint-Laurent will remember you,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
