Formula 1 | Montoya ‘takes his hat off’ to Hamilton for a specific reason

Juan Pablo Montoya is impressed by Lewis Hamilton’s ability to make good career choices. The former driver is convinced that the seven-time world champion can also succeed at Ferrari.

“Every time Lewis changes ships, he does it in a car that wins. It’s remarkable. It’s great for him and I take my hat off to him.” Montoya said. “He goes to McLaren and starts winning. He leaves McLaren and everyone wonders why.”

“Then they’re at the back of the pack and Lewis goes to Mercedes and wins all these championships. It’s incredible. Ferrari makes such improvements and here comes Lewis. It’s incredible. I don’t know how he does it, but he always finds himself in a better position.”

The Colombian is convinced that it is possible for Hamilton to be champion an eighth time in red: “It’s good for him and it will be great to have Lewis in a Ferrari to win races and potentially the championship. It’s a real possibility.”

As for Hamilton’s replacement at Mercedes F1, Montoya is cautious.

“Kimi Antonelli is on the other side of the coin, in the spotlight on one of the best teams with a teammate, George Russell, who is doing a tremendous job.”

“And we sell you as the next Max Verstappen. If he doesn’t keep his promises, it will be hard.”

“I think with Valtteri Bottas back as a reserve, Mercedes has their backs. It’s a safety net to have someone in case it doesn’t work out with Antonelli… and Bottas knows that.”
