Ruhpolding – Émilien Jacquelin to Johannes Boe: “You are a yellow jersey, you have to respect it”

19th in the Ruhpolding individual, Émilien Jacquelin was able to find the words to motivate Johannes Boe to finish the race, only 85th.

A yellow bib to respect

19th in the 20 kilometers of Ruhpolding with two mistakes, Émilien Jacquelin returned to the somewhat strange scene offered by Johannes Boe this afternoon. Out of the game with five errors, the Norwegian wanted to give up following the last shot. At the same time on the no shooting for his last pass in front of the targets, the Frenchman came back to his opponent and whispered a few words to him to motivate him to finish the race.

For the Villardian, it is not possible to give up with the yellow bib on his shoulders. “He was really out of his race (Johannes Boe, editor’s note)confided Émilien Jacquelin at the microphone of the Équipe channel. He decides to put on a show on his last shot when I was settling in and trying to stay focused to have a good race. When I start to pull I feel him celebrating nearby. I'm very happy that I stayed focused.

And when I saw him putting on the flashing light I took the liberty of telling him: “Don’t do that, you’re a yellow jersey, you have to respect it.” It's funny coming from me because I was able to give up in the past but never while being a yellow jersey on a world cup. I'm glad it was useful for him to finally finish the race. During a race I remain natural and knowing that he is a friend, I allowed myself to say that to him.”
