FC Barcelona announced on Tuesday that its defender, Iñigo Martinez, suffers from a muscle injury in his right thigh, which will keep him away from the field for at least a month.
“Exams carried out this morning, January 14, showed that first team player Inigo Martinez suffers from a rupture of the biceps femoris of the right thigh. His period of unavailability will be approximately 4 weeks,” the Catalan club said in a press release.
The 33-year-old Spanish central defender, one of Hansi Flick’s regular starters, was injured in the first half of the Spanish Super Cup final won on Sunday (5-2) against Real Madrid, and had to be replaced by the Uruguayan Ronald Araujo.
According to the Spanish press, this absence could encourage Barça to keep Araujo, its vice-captain, who is attracting the interest of Juventus.
