“I am the happiest man in the world”… Relive the triumphant arrival of winner Charlie Dalin in Les Sables d’Olonne

A crowd bath, after two months of solitude. Sixty-five days after the start of the 10th edition of the Vendée Globe from Les Sables d’Olonne, Charlie Dalin arrived as winner in the Vendée commune on Tuesday January 14, registering his name for the first time on the winners list of the event.

A record victory. On his Imoca Macif Santé Prévoyance, Charlie Dalin made Vendée Globe history, with an unassisted sailing trip around the world completed in 64 days, 19 hours, 22 minutes and 49 seconds. Le Havrais smashes Armel Le Cléac’h’s previous record by almost 10 days (74 days, 3 hours, 35 minutes and 46 seconds), established during the 2016-2017 edition.

The end of a long duel with Yoann Richomme. Since taking power on December 31, Charlie Dalin has fought a breathtaking duel with Yoann Richomme (Paprec Arkéa). The 40-year-old skipper, who led around two thirds of the scores, battled for a long time with his elder brother, before distancing himself in the final days of the race. He is expected a few hours later.

A first coronation for Charlie Dalin. With this prestigious victory, the skipper from undoubtedly erases the pain of the 2020-2021 edition. First to cross the finish line, he finally finished second after the bonus granted to Yannick Bestaven for saving Kevin Escoffier.

A quirky celebration but with great pomp. The Le Havre skipper, who had to cross the line before 6:15 a.m. to enter directly into the channel and receive a welcome from the public, had to wait a little. Due to the tide, he waited until 1:50 p.m. to receive the ovation of the thousands of people waiting for him in Les Sables d’Olonne.
