A champion response! Less than 24 hours after practically losing his entire lead in the general classification of this Dakar 2025, Henk Lategan responded in the best possible way. The South African, guided by Brett Cummings, imposed his rule in this eighth stage by signing his first success in this 47th edition (excluding Prologue). With a time of 4h51’54, the Toyota driver beat his teammate Guy David Botterill by 1’47.
But it was above all against his runner-up Yazeed Al-Rajhi in the general classification that Henk Lategan carried out an excellent operation. Indeed, the Saudi, who started at the front this Monday, lost 5’20 on the leader of the Dakar. From now on, the South African leads the way with 5’41 ahead of his main rival. Nasser Al-Attiyah is one of the big losers of this 8th stage since he conceded 12’17 on Lategan. Overall, he remains 4th but is now 34’14 from the lead. Mattias Ekström completes the podium at 28’55.
On the French side, Mathieu Serradori clings to 6th place with his Century. The Varois is 58’24 behind Henk Lategan and less than three minutes from the Top 5.
The 9th stage of this Dakar 2025 will take place between Riyadh and Harad for a total of 357 kilometers of special.
