Djilali Bedrani set a personal best over 10 km in Valencia (Spain), during a race which smiled on the French. On the track side, Marie-Julie Bonnin and Thibaut Collet achieved the minimums for the indoor Europe during the first stage of the Perche Elite Tour, at Le Dévoluy.
Beating his personal best despite a point aside, this is the unusual performance achieved by Djilali Bedrani Sunday morning in Valencia. In the Iberian city most popular with runners, the member of SATUC Toulouse Athlé managed to overcome the pain that appeared at the eighth kilometer to continue his effort and cross the finish line in 27’46”. A result synonymous with 22nd place in a race won by the Swede Andreas Almgren in 26’54”, which erases the fresh European record of Etienne Daguinos (27’04”).
The 3000m steeplechase specialist improves his personal best by four seconds, which dates back to 2020. He gains a place in the French all-time results, overtaking Yann Schrub (27’48”) to rank seventh. Simon Berard also left Spain with a smile. The cross-country skier from Haute Bretagne Athlétisme finished in 28’08”, a slap of 18 seconds to his old reference mark.
Among the women, the Kenyan Hellen Ekalale Lobun won in 29’31”. Mekdes Woldu (Entente Franconville Cesame Val d’Oise), for her first competition since the Paris Olympic marathon, ranked 16th in 31’44”, 19 seconds off her record. Philippine de La Bigne (Paris University Club Stade Français agreement) and Méline Rollin (GRAC Athletics) achieved the best time of their career, in 32’40” and 32’43” respectively.
Bonnin and Collet have taken good marks
In a discipline where the slightest technical modification can quickly tip the balance to one side or the other, pole vaulters always need a few competitions to adjust. Marie-Julie Bonnin et Thibaut Collet are on the right track, as evidenced by their return to Le Dévoluy during the first stage of the Perche Elite Tour, which allowed them to overcome the minimums for the European indoor championships in Apeldoorn (Netherlands). The 24-year-old athlete licensed at Stade Bordelais won by clearing 4.51 m on the second attempt, the best start to the season of her career. She then stuck ten centimeters higher.
In men, Thibaut Collet fought well, clearing 5.70 m on the third try. He then unsuccessfully attacked 5.82 m, a bar synonymous with the best world performance that the Dutchman passed.
