After its excellent start to the season, the Vire table tennis club is launching 2 new teams

The season of table tennis is divided into two phases » independent from the championship: between September and December, then between January and May. The first therefore made its verdict a few weeks ago.

And we can say that for USM Vire, it was rather positive. It’s even an understatement. “These results are unheard of at the club since I have been there,” says the president, Didier Prunier.

And for good reason: of the seven teams entered, none are relegateddespite the fact that several had just been promoted. And above all, four of them will precisely rise to the next level : teams 1 (from R4 to R3), 4 (from D2 to D1) and 6 and 7 (from D4 to D3).

This is more than positive, and it shows that we were right to choose to focus even more on our young players, with balanced teams. Everything is linked. And with the increase in the level they faced, their progress was exponential.

Good results, also at individual level

This progress was also observed in the individual scaleand not only in team championships, since two young Virois licensees have qualified for the regional level of their age category, in addition to a qualification in Nationale 2 women.

That too, it’s been a long time since we had several young people in the Regional. We are starting to see the results of the course of action that the club has been following for four years now, this bodes well for the future.

Two new teams… including one 100% female

The rest, in fact, is being prepared for the start of the second phase, on Friday January 17, 2025. In which will be engaged nine Virois teamsbecause two new ones will be created during this offseason.

One of which entirely femininerelying on the graduates who arrived this year in the female niche proposed by the club, one of the novelties of the year.

It’s a first for us to have a women’s team. This became possible thanks to the enthusiasm of our new section, which brings together around a dozen players. Honestly, we didn’t expect it to take so quickly, that’s a bonus!

A new niche opens

For the other teams in the championship – which promises to be more difficult than in the first part of the season, after so many promotions – the president does not set any particular objective, other than to hope for maintenance of the maximum number of teams.

It would also be a very good thing if a second team managed to reach the Regional, because the long-term objective would be to have a team at this level with only young people. Finally, during this phase we will open a new practice niche for people suffering from Parkinson’s and other related diseases; Table tennis is an excellent sport for the brain.
