The podium is fast approaching! Sixth in the Sankt Anton downhill on Saturday, American alpine skiing legend Lindsey Vonn placed fourth this Sunday in the super-G contested in the Austrian resort, confirming in her third race of the winter her return to first plan.

“I don’t know what to say, it’s a bit of a crazy run. It’s a big step forward, the descent yesterday gave me a lot of confidence, I was more active today but the conditions weren’t easy. Finishing fourth with big mistakes, I can be proud of that,” said Lindsey Vonn, who actually missed the end of her race, otherwise she could have been on the podium.

She consoled herself with the victory of one of her compatriots. It was in fact the young American Lauren Macuga (22 years old) who created the surprise by winning the race quite easily ahead of the Austrian Stephanie Venier (+ 0″68) and the Italian Federica Brignone (+ 0″92).

Lindsey Vonn, whose right knee was partially replaced in April by a titanium prosthesis allowing her to return to the circuit at the age of 40, finished 1″24 behind Macuga but she was ahead of seasoned skiers on the world circuit like the Swiss Lara Gut (5th) or Corinne Suter (8th).

The skier with 82 World Cup victories will have the opportunity to score her first podium since her return during the next races in Cortina d’Ampezzo, in the downhill on Saturday January 18 or the super-G on Sunday January 19.
