Basketball – For the 2024-2025 season: New challenges for Mbour Basket Club – Lequotidien

The Mbour Basket Club (Mbc) team begins the 2024-2025 season with new ambitions and a strengthened team. Between integration of recruits, logistics and sporting objectives, the club is preparing to take on the many challenges that await it.

By Alioune Badara Ciss (Correspondent) – Under the direction of Ibrahim Bass, the new coach, Mbc welcomed seven recruits to strengthen its squad. Among them, there are two players from Mbour, a leader from the Polytechnic School of Thiès (Ept), a player from Bambey and two seniors from Bargny. This diversity brings new life to the team, while creating healthy and beneficial competition.

New recruit and leader from Rosso Senegal, Nani Mbodji welcomes the good integration of the new players.

“We are very confident and in good shape going into the first match and the championship,” she said.

As for Nafissatou Samb, vice-captain of the team, she maintains that “the team is in a good state of mind. Our goal this year is to play in the play-offs.”

For this season, Mbour Basket Club, with the return of an experienced coach, is aiming for the podium. Although he has just been named head coach, Ibrahim Bass is not unknown within Mbour Basket Club. A former coach, physical education teacher and champion with the Mbour disabled team, he knows the environment well. He aims to bring back cohesion within the club and to further involve the Mbour community.

“My experience will allow me to build a solid team and unite the young managers around the project. Our main objective is to play in the play-offs, a level that the club has not reached for almost four years,” confides the coach.

First match in Ziguinchor, this Saturday
In addition to this objective, the club also faces financial and logistical challenges. The General Treasurer, Mohamed Dia, highlights the financial difficulties the club is facing. With a long trip to Ziguinchor for the first match, located 540 km from Mbour, logistical costs weigh heavily. Despite this, the club has invested in recruiting new players to maintain its ambition to play leading roles. Mohamed Dia also appeals to local authorities for better management of sports infrastructures.
