Maybe Jim Montgomery wasn’t the problem after all.
The Boston Bruins are currently going through one of the worst lethargies of their season, having failed to win in their last six outings.

Thursday night, they suffered a 4-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, direct rivals in the very tight race for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. With this victory, the Lighting now leads the Bruins in the Atlantic Division standings.
Having come to replace Montgomery after he was fired, Joe Sacco seems to be running out of solutions. Since being moved to the head coaching position, he has maintained a 12-10-2 record, barely better than his predecessor’s (8-9-3).
His team also has the worst goals for/goals against differential among all teams with a playoff spot at -27. The two worst clubs in the East, the Buffalo Sabers and the New York Islanders are respectively at -10 and -20 in this regard.
This means that the Bruins now occupy one of the two spots reserved for teams drafted in the East. However, they have played more games than everyone with whom they are in the race, including the Montreal Canadiens.
Martin St-Louis’ men are currently four points behind Boston, but with three games in hand.
