FC Barcelona central defender Iñigo Martínez has not minced words regarding Vinicius Jr.’s two-match sanction following his sending off against Valencia. The Real Madrid striker, involved in a clash with goalkeeper Dimitrievski, saw his suspension reduced thanks to a reclassification of the facts, thus escaping an initial sanction of 4 to 12 matches. A decision that is causing a lot of discussion.
Martinez remembers being punished much more
In the mixed zone, after Barça’s victory against Athletic Bilbao in the semi-final of the Super Cup (2-0), Martínez expressed his dissatisfaction with what he considers to be a disparity in treatment. “That doesn’t seem fair to me either. A few years ago I was suspended four games for a lot less, and no one talked about it. There, the sanction is drastically reduced. These are decisions made by others, beyond our control,” he said, visibly annoyed.
While Real Madrid will therefore see Vinicius miss a minimum number of matches, anger is growing on the side of Barça, who nevertheless received a nice boost from the authorities as well, with the authorized registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor.
