The Confederation of African (CAF) announced this Tuesday a significant increase in prize money for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which will take place in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. The winner of the competition will receive a bonus of $3.5 million, an increase of 75%.

In an official statement published on its website, CAF also revealed that the overall prize pool for the tournament has been increased to $10.4 million, marking an increase of 32%.

“We are excited for CHAN 2024 to be hosted in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. We have significantly increased the prize money for the winner, which will now stand at $3.5 million, while increasing the overall prize pool to $10.4 million. This reflects a growth of 32%,” declared Patrice Motsepe, president of CAF.

“CHAN is a crucial competition for the development of local players in Africa and promising young talents. It also contributes to strengthening the competitiveness of African football on a global scale. This initiative is part of our investment strategy to make African football more attractive to fans, viewers, sponsors and partners around the world.he added.

The tournament will begin on February 1, 2025 and conclude on February 28, 2025. Seventeen nations have already qualified for this edition: Morocco, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Guinea, Senegal, Mauritania, Niger, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo, Sudan, Zambia, Angola and Madagascar.

Two additional teams will join the competition after the final qualifying matches.
