(Keystone-ATS) For this 9th edition, the motto of this Gymotion is “Together”, like the Federal Gymnastics Festival which will take place from June 12 to 22 in Lausanne, to which it acts as a sort of prelude. The Vaud capital will welcome some 70,000 gymnasts and around 300,000 visitors for the largest sporting event in Switzerland which takes place every six years.

Choreographed demonstrations, solo performances: athletes representing multiple disciplines of rhythmic gymnastics will perform on Saturday to the rhythm of 20 musicians, in “breathtaking sound and lights”, according to the organizers. The two performances at the gates of Lausanne will take place in the early afternoon and evening, at 1:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Each show lasts approximately two hours.

Around 10,000 spectators expected

Gymotion was born in 2009, at the instigation of the Swiss Gymnastics Federation (FSG). The show aims to be “the modern showcase of a very popular sport which occupies a special place in the history of the country”. This 9th edition is organized in collaboration with the Sports Department of the City of Lausanne, the organizing committee of the Lausanne 2025 Federal Gymnastics Festival and GymVaud.

The FSG expects no less than 10,000 spectators in total for the two shows. “To date, around 4,700 tickets have been sold for each performance,” a media manager from the FSG in Aarau (AG) told Keystone-ATS on Tuesday. There are therefore still places left since each show can accommodate up to 7,000 people at the Vaudoise arena, transformed for the occasion.

In eight editions presented at the Hallenstadion in Zurich, Gymotion has brought together tens of thousands of spectators every two years. The 2023 edition recorded 13,500 spectators and was followed by more than 100,000 people on television.
