Rennes has decided to strike very hard in the transfer window in January. The players are arriving and it must be said that the salaries offered are colossal.
Last year at the same time, Olympique Lyonnais began a fairly incredible transfer window with a slew of recruits from all walks of life to avoid relegation. With excessive spending, OL had managed to climb back up to finish European. Without being in such a dangerous situation, Stade Rennais also intends to strike very hard this winter, by putting in colossal resources. Through the press, it was revealed that François Pinault, the owner of the Breton club, intended to put his hand in his pocket to strengthen the team and provide resources for the training of Jorge Sampaoli.
Fofana, a monstrous salary
The French businessman kept his word with the first two recruits of the winter. Seko Fofana left Saudi Arabia to return to Ligue 1, having been the boss of RC Lens before his unexpected departure to the Gulf. Brice Samba was also seduced by the Rennes project and especially the financial means made available to him, to the point of asking the “Sang et Or” to let him leave at the end of December.
The attraction for Stade Rennais, however, has a very rational explanation. The Roazhon Park team has decided to pull out all the stops financially and Jérome Rothen, in his show on RMC, reveals that the recruits' salaries have literally exploded Rennes' finances. Thus, according to the former PSG and AS Monaco player in particular, Seko Fofana will earn 750,000 euros per month with his new club. And for Brice Samba, it will be 500,000 euros at the end of each month. The goalkeeper of the France team will simply double his salary with this transfer, and we better understand his desire to change scenery this winter and not refuse such a proposal.
A law of the market which will inevitably cause a stir, because the salary scale in Rennes will be completely disrupted. And even that of Ligue 1 because, if we compare with the year 2024, the salary paid to Fofana would put him at the bottom of the Top 10 best paid players in our championship, a ranking which was until now only reserved for PSG players.
