Taking advantage of the mid-season break in Pro D2, the National League (Pro D2) organized from December 21 to January 6 the election of the “mid-season typical XV”. A very symbolic election, which allows us to take the pulse of the supporters and fill a slow period in the year.

Brive better regarded than

But curiously, the leader Grenoble is not the club most represented in this team composition. It was its runner-up, CA Brive, which placed six of its players. Notably hooker Lucas Da Silva and winger Erwan Dridi (eight tries each), his “serial markers”. But also the English internationals Courtney Lawes (3rd wing line) and Scottish Sam Johnson… the latter injured in mid-December (at the Stade des Alpes) and sidelined for many months.

This reflects as much the quality of the first leg of the Brivistes (ten victories in fifteen days) as the power of their fans on social networks.

Six other clubs have placed a player in this “typical mid-season XV”: US (5th) with left pillar Louis Mary, SU (11th) with 2nd line Evan Olmstead, US (10th) with flanker Anthony Coletta, Soyaux/Angoulême XV (6th) with its New Zealand fly-half Ben Botica and AS Béziers Hérault (3rd) with fullback Gabin Lorre, considered by many to be the best player in the championship; eleven flattened tries and 51 points against the poles.

Finally, US – despite its failed start to the championship (13th at the break, despite its status as relegated from the Top 14… and candidate for a comeback) – managed to place one of its executives: n°8 and former Grenoblois Loïc Godener.

The “typical mid-season XV”

Lorre (Béziers) – W. Hulleu (Grenoble), R. Fusier (Grenoble), S. Johnson (Brive), Dridi (Brive) – (o) B. Botica (Soyaux/Angoulême), (m) L. Carbonneau ( Brive) – Lawes (Brive), Godener (Oyonnax), Coletta (Colomiers) – Javakhia (Grenoble), Olmstead (Agen) – M. Van der Merwe (Brive), Da Silva (Brive), Mary (Dax).
