Less than a month before the 2024 African Nations Championship (Chan) scheduled for February 1 to 28, 2025 in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, the local Lions are expected to play two friendly matches in Dakar and take part in a mini tournament in order to prepare in the best conditions. As part of the 2024 African Nations Championship (Chan), the Senegalese Federation wants better preparation for the local national team. On this chapter, the National Technical Directorate and the technical staff are working on two friendly matches before the start of the competition which will be held from February 1 to 28, 2025 in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

Reigning champions, the local Lions should play two friendly matches in Dakar, according to the National Technical Director (Dtn), Mayacine Mar, following a review and outlook meeting with the technical staff of the different national selections qualified for the 2025 competitions. The matches are scheduled for January 13 and 15. Potential candidates to face the local Lions are Guinea, Burkina Faso, Mali and Mauritania.

“We have already sent letters to some teams to play friendly matches. I don’t want to anticipate, but we will have friendly matches,” confided the Dtn.

According to the National Technical Directorate, Souleymane Diallo’s protégés could also take part in a mini tournament scheduled between January 20 and 26, 2025 in Dubai, Abidjan or Kigali.

In the meantime, the local Lions begin their preparation on January 9, 2025. The coach, Souleymane Diallo, called on 25 players, a good number of whom took part in the qualification.

Note that the Chan 2025 draw is scheduled for January 15.

Planning for regaining titles
Referring to the results of the season and the outlook for the next events, Mayacine Mar believes that “it was important to evaluate and then put in place a preparation schedule for our national teams. We want and we want to keep the titles that we have won. For the Women’s National Team, we want to win this title.

On the roof of Africa in almost all categories, Mayacine Mar clarified: “We want to keep titles and for that, we need good organization. And the best organization starts first with a meeting with the staff. Let us take stock, evaluate our competitions, then and above all, develop a preparation schedule for each of our teams towards these dates.”

The local Lions will compete in the Chan organized jointly by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, from February 1 to 28, 2025. In March, the U17 national team, defending champion, will participate in Morocco in the Can of this category . The opening match will be played on Sunday March 30, 2025, with the final scheduled for next Saturday April 19.

After the Can U17, the Cubs will compete in the Can U20 in Ivory Coast, from April 26 to May 18. The U15 National Team will play the next U15 African School Football Championship. This edition will be held in Zanzibar (Tanzania), from May 18 to 24, 2024. For its part, the women’s national team will participate in the Can, which will take place from July 5 to 26, 2025, in Morocco. The Lions will end the year 2025 by competing in the Can in the Cherifian Kingdom, from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026.
