Formula 1 | Button proud that 2009 season ‘remains in history’

Jenson Button has revealed that the 2024 season, during which he made his return to WEC competition with Jota and Porsche (pictured below), has been revitalizing for him. In 2025, the 2009 world champion will still be with Jota, and this time he will drive with Cadillac.

“The year 2024 has been very busy, yes” Button said. “It’s been exciting and a lot of good things have happened. It’s my first full racing season since 2019, at 44 years old, so it’s like I’m reborn! It’s been a challenge; everything First, it was about getting up to speed in the car.”

“It takes a little longer when you’re a little older, but once you get used to it, I love it. The pace is there, I love wheel-to-wheel racing. The WEC is a series fantastic which is in a very favorable situation at the moment, like many motorsport categories.”

“It’s a pleasure to see so many manufacturers involved. I really enjoyed this season. The results didn’t live up to our expectations and there was some bad luck at times, but I learned a lot in preparation for 2025, where I will race with Cadillac and Hertz Team Jota.”

Button has also been a consultant for Sky F1, and he has loved covering this 2024 season: “Being around Formula 1 and seeing the competitiveness this year has been incredible. Obviously Max was in great shape at the start of the season.”

“But then a lot of teams caught up, so to see so many teams and drivers fighting at the front, with lots of great races and different winners, it was mega. As 2025 dawns, I think we can expect this to continue.”

The year 2024 marked 15 years of his world title, which was immortalized last year in a documentary on the epic Brawn GP: “It’s crazy that it’s been 15 years! I had the opportunity to drive the car again five years ago, which was a great experience. Looking back on it, I think it’s a year that will go down in history.”

“Not because I won the world championship, but because a private team won its first world championship in its first year under the name Brawn GP. There are so many things that we forgotten 15 years later, which is a shame, and that’s why I’m so lucky that a documentary was made about it.”

“I was in with my wife last week and the documentary came on , so we watched it. The fact that it’s documented and I can see the emotion of everyone involved in this season is truly special.”

“I’m very lucky to have this and Keanu Reeves did a really good job on this movie. I have a lot of great memories from this season, but it’s also the hardest year of my life, because of the stress I put on myself.”

He also remembers the first Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, in 2009, where he had just won the title and which marked a revolution in modern circuits: “It was futuristic. It was an incredible experience, a night race, and it also meant going to a country I had never been to before.”

“So I really enjoyed it and it was my first podium in several races that season. I arrived in Abu Dhabi as world champion because I had won in Brazil, so it was a big race . I spent Sunday evening at the Amber Lounge with Michael Schumacher, Ross Brawn, and it was really fun.”

The Yas Marina circuit has changed, and the British driver is eager to discover the version as it has been since 2021: “I enjoyed the track as I drove it, but I will be able to drive it in January.”

“We’re testing there for the WEC, so I’ll see what the high-speed section is like, but I like it. It’s a good place on the calendar. It’s not such a circuit. faster than Suzuka, Silverstone or Spa, but I’ve always enjoyed driving there and I think the racing there is good.”
