Sensational return of Axel Witsel to the Jupiler Pro League?

Axel Witsel is at the end of his career. Last season, he was still an essential pawn at Atlético de Madrid and national coach Domenico Tedesco convinced him to participate in the European Championship in Germany, but this season, the defender and midfielder is playing much less.

It has already been revealed that Witsel is considering quitting at the end of the season and hanging up his boots. However, a final challenge could still present itself.

Is a return to JPL being prepared?

Witsel broke through at Standard Liège, then was all the rage at Benfica, Borussia Dortmund and Atlético de Madrid. The midfielder did not disdain lucrative adventures either. He earned millions in Russia and China, at Zenit and TJ Quanjian respectively. So Witsel no longer needs to think about money today.

According to the Spanish media, a return to Belgian fields and to Standard, his former love, is an option for the Red Devil with 132 caps. In total, Witsel has already played 194 matches for Rouches, with 45 goals and 18 assists.

Less playing time

At Atlético de Madrid, Witsel will have to settle for a reserve role this season. In the Spanish capital, he is still under contract until the end of the season for a market value of 2.5 million euros. This season, he has started seven times out of 18. Witsel is in his third season with Diego Simeone’s team.
