Across the NHL: Auston Matthews on the trip, Connor Hellebuyck aims for his 300th victory

Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews accompanied the team to New York and participated in Thursday’s morning skate before the game against the New York Islanders, reports David Alter of The Hockey News.

Matthews will not play Thursday, however, and will miss a sixth straight game while recovering from an upper-body injury.

A plateau for Hellebuyck

Connor Hellebuyck is expected to be the starting goaltender for the Winnipeg Jets tonight against the Anaheim Ducks, as he looks to record his 300th career victory.

The 31-year-old goaltender has a career record of 299-178-42 and is coming off a 22-save shutout against the Nashville Predators on Monday.

The 6-foot-4 goaltender has won nine of his last ten outings and is 24-5-1 with a 2.00 goals-against average and .930 save percentage this season.

Back under contract

The Dallas Stars signed forward Oskar Back to a two-year contract extension on Thursday.

The 24-year-old was drafted 75th overall in the 2018 draft and had one goal and nine points in 31 games in his rookie season.
