At Man Utd, the arrival of Ruben Amorim, the new coach of the Reds Devils, is not necessarily good news for club goalkeeper André Onana.
The Cameroonian goalkeeper landed at the Mancunian club at the insistence of the former coach, Erik Ten Hag who was still in charge until October 2024.
The two men have worked together in the past at Ajax Amsterdam and the Dutchman appreciated the Cameroonian’s goalkeeping talent.
It is for this reason that he weighed heavily for him to be recruited by Man Utd after his arrival and after the exceptional season achieved by André Onana at Inter Milan in 2023.
From now on, Ruben Amorim is the coach of Man Utd and the confidence he has in André Onana is necessarily not the same as that which Erik Ten Hag had.
In addition, the Cameroonian’s recent questionable performances in the Premier League would greatly worry the former Sporting Portugal coach.
According to the British media, the latter would have finally made the decision to recruit a new goalkeeper who would be able to really compete with Onana.
The Portuguese technician would have made the recruitment of a very promising goalkeeper the priority of the winter transfer window which has just opened.
While until now he was 100% assured of his status as starting goalkeeper, the Cameroonian could see that change in the coming weeks.
He will clearly be put in competition to encourage him to give the best of himself and play more successful matches than currently.
