Mats Rits is one of the experienced players at Anderlecht. He was already in the club’s sights during his professional debut.
A year and a half ago, Mats Rits joined Anderlecht from Club Brugge. Union Saint-Gilloise was also in the running, but Sporting won.
At 31, the midfielder still has a few good years ahead of him. However, he has been on the circuit for a long time. In 2009, when he made his debut at the age of 16 for Beerschot, the people of Brussels showed up for the first time.
“I had considered joining Anderlecht at that time. I came to the offices of the Constant Vanden Stock stadium, with Herman Van Holsbeeck and Ariël Jacobs,” he remembers for La Derniere Heure.
Anderlecht returns to the charge
But the affair collapsed: “My mother got involved. I should have come to school at Anderlecht. By staying in Beerschot, I could stay at the village school.” Mats Rits finally left two years later for Ajax. Before returning to Belgium, to Mechelen then to Club Bruges.
“Anderlecht showed up again when I left Mechelen. But the Club’s interest was more concrete” continues Rits. The third time will therefore have been the good one for Sporting.
