14th in the Premier League, Manchester United is in great difficulty. Ruben Amorim has not improved the situation of the Red Devils, who suffer in particular in the offensive area. The arrival of Viktor Gyokeres seems essential but the price will have to be paid.
Even one of the best coaches in Europe today will not have been enough to wake up Manchester United. Stuck in the second part of the Premier League standings, the Red Devils went to get Ruben Amorim from Sporting and at a high price (16 million euros). The 39-year-old Portuguese technician had placed his Lisbon club at the highest level, the latter being undefeated in all competitions before the departure of his coach. However, Amorim had no tactical or psychological impact on a failing Mancunian team. Bad in the game, Manchester United lost 6 matches with the Lusitanian coach including 5 in the Premier League. 14th in the championship, the Mancunians are getting dangerously close to the bottom of the table.
Amorim demands Gyokeres from January
A catastrophic assessment which highlights the lack of quality of the workforce. Feverish defensively, Manchester United also suffers offensively. The Mancunian club has scored no goals in its last three league matches, failing to create an attacking leader. Hojlund is doing decently but Rashford and Zirkzee are real ghosts. The Dutchman was also replaced after just 33 minutes against Newcastle. Amorim knows it: Manchester United needs a killer up front to move up the rankings and who better than their former player Viktor Gyokeres.
According to the Daily Star, Ruben Amorim asked his leaders to recruit the Swede as quickly as possible, from January. Closely linked to his former protégé at Sporting, he knows his talent for scoring goals and believes that he is the player capable of relaunching Manchester United. An impatience that is all the more logical as Rashford and Zirkzee are announced as starters this winter. The transfer of the Swedish gunner (62 goals in 2024!) comes at a cost: 100 million euros. This is the amount of his non-negotiable release clause, set by Sporting. A huge expense but the Red Devils have no choice, they are experiencing their worst season in 35 years.
