Ah, theEnduropale du Touquet…a clever mix of adrenaline, sand in the eyes, and engines that roar like never before. If you’ve never heard of this legendary race, we’re here to explain the main points to you!
01
A little history: from birth to cult race
Imagine a huge beach transformed into an apocalyptic circuit. Every year, hundreds of bikers, quad bikers and other thrill-seekers come to Touquet-Paris-Plage to compete in a race, certainly special but above all very important for the circuit.
The Enduropale saw the light of day in 1975 under the name Enduro des Sables, thanks to Thierry Sabine (who also invented the Dakar rally, no less). Initially reserved for a handful of enthusiasts, the competition quickly grew to become a flagship event in motorsport. The 1980s marked a turning point with increased media coverage and the arrival of the greatest drivers in the world.
In 2006, the race was renamed Enduropale du Touquet to underline its local roots and its ecological commitment. Today, the enduropale has become an unmissable event. More than 2,700 pilots embark on this sandy chaos each year, under the amazed eyes of tens of thousands of spectators.

The Enduropale in figures
-
3 hours : This is the duration of the main test (which is to say that it must sting).
-
13 km : The length of the circuit, a hellish loop of dunes, straight lines, and tight turns.
-
600 000 spectators in 2024: Yes, it’s more than the population of Lille. The beach is transformed into a gigantic festival, with the music of the engines running at full speed.
-
140 broadcasting countries : we are obviously talking about an event that crosses borders with 19 nations represented in the 5 races and broadcast in 140 different countries!
04
The real stars of the show: the pilots
There’s everything: pros on circuits since they could walk, amateurs coming aboard motorcycles tinkered in their garage, and even crazy people in disguise (because running as Pikachu, why not after all).
The strategy? Well, drive fast and pray you don’t get bogged down in the dunes or get eaten by the peloton. For spectators, spotting failures is almost as entertaining as the race itself.
The Enduropale is not just a race, it’s a state of mind. The town of Le Touquet is transformed into a veritable motorized carnival. Between the stands selling everything (from pancakes to improbable gadgets), entertainment for children and impromptu concerts in local bars, it’s impossible to be bored.
And yes, you have to love the crowds, the noise, and the capricious weather of the north. But that’s also the charm of this event: we freeze our fingers, we drink hot chocolate, all while shouting encouragement for drivers we didn’t know ten minutes earlier.
-
Thrill seekers: It’s an opportunity to see professionals at work, and perhaps to dream of doing it one day.
-
Families : Yes, it’s noisy, but the kids love it, and the parents always find an excuse to eat fries.
-
Mechanical enthusiasts : Between the noise of the engines and the technical prowess, it’s a real delight.
The Enduropale is both a collective adventure and an explosion of energy against the backdrop of a Nordic beach. Whether you are a pilot, a spectator, or simply curious, it is unlikely that this experience will leave you indifferent… so see you at Le Touquet on February 7, 8 and 9, 2025!
