An optional training that would have been organized by the Dallas Stars could cost them dearly.

The National Hockey League (NHL) is conducting an investigation to determine whether the Texan team violated a collective agreement regulation by holding training on Thursday, The Athletic reported on Saturday.

According to its collective agreement, the NHL prohibits all activities on December 24, Christmas Day and December 26. A team also cannot ask a player for consent to train during these days.

It was head coach Peter DeBoer who escaped Friday, before the game against the Minnesota Wild. He said that several players had practiced on the day of the post-Christmas sales.

“I was at the rink yesterday [jeudi]. We held an optional training, and obviously, the young people all came as they are supposed to,” said the Stars pilot.

Dallas now faces a fine. The last two similar cases occurred in 2022 and 2015 when the Toronto Maple Leafs and Philadelphia Flyers traveled earlier than allowed during the holiday season. The two organizations had to pay an amount of $100,000.

The Stars, who were defeated 3-2 in overtime by the Wild, will face the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday.
