Getting off to a bad start due to the early goal of Ghanaian Leicester striker Jordan Ayew (0-1, 6th), the Reds subsequently reversed the situation.
First the equalizer, thanks to the goal of the Dutchman Cody Gakpo before the break. Then the Englishman Jones gave the advantage in the second half, before the Egyptian Mohamed Salah drove the point home to seal the score at 3-1 in favor of Liverpool.
A victory which allows Liverpool to consolidate its first place in the ranking while Leicester goes down to 18th place. Arne Slot, Liverpool manager, believes that the journey remains long:
“NWe should win at home against Leicester. But it takes a lot of effort especially in the Premier League to win. That’s what happened to us. We are certainly at the top in the standings, but we are aware of that, and we also know how many matches remain to be played” he said.
Manchester City couldn’t do it
At the bottom of the hole for several weeks, the reigning English champion club achieved a frustrating result against Everton (1-1). Pep Guardiola’s players have only one victory in their last thirteen (13) matches.
A small point last night, however, allowed the Citizens to occupy 7th place, but 14 points behind leader Liverpool.
Boxing Day results
Second in the standings, FC Chelsea lost at home to Fulham (2-1), Wolverhampton beat Manchester United (2-0), Newcastle dominated Aston Villa (3-0).
