Laurent Travers is leaving his position as chairman of the board of directors of Racing 92, after more than ten seasons at the club. A decade marked on a sporting level by a Brennus Shield (2016), three European Cup finals (2016, 2018, 2020). But also the “unfailing friendship” with its owner, Jacky Lorenzetti. The latter said he “regretted” but “understood” and “respected” his decision.

Laurent Travers was first one of the coaches, with Laurent Labit, then director of rugby before becoming chairman of the board in July 2023. “Wishing to return to his role as rugby technician, Laurent decided to end his duties”, explains the club in a press release.

Too far from the grounds

is regularly cited as a base for the man who was seen as the natural successor to Lorenzetti at Racing 92. Arnaud Tourtoulou, general director of Ciel et Blanc between 2011 and 2016, will succeed him.

The announcement of the decision, anticipated for several weeks, confirms the end of a cycle for the Ile-de- club, which experienced numerous disappointments in 2024, in line with a post-Covid cycle much less successful than the years ago. At the top of the Top 14 on January 1, Racing 92 collapsed as the year progressed, losing matches and important players in the squad. The Ile-de-France residents are currently ninth in the Top 14 after three consecutive defeats.
