Former rider Pascal Hervé died during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday at the age of 60, announced the National Union of Professional Cyclists (UNCP). The Frenchman had briefly worn the pink jersey in the 1996 Giro, before being caught up in the Festina doping affair during the 1998 Tour de France. The circumstances of the Frenchman's death have not been specified but he revealed last September that he had been operated on for a “cancerous stomach tumor” in the middle of the year, with a “complete removal of the stomach”.
“Pascal was an emblematic figure and an essential voice of our sport,” the UNCP reacted on X. The great cycling family is in mourning.
