In recent years, KRC Genk has been able to rely on several young and great talents from its own training center. Last summer, sales by Maarten Vandevoordt, Bilal El Khannouss and Mike Penders brought in no less than 50 million euros.
Vandevoordt joined RB Leipzig for a cool €10 million, while Leicester paid over €20 million for El Khannouss. The most surprising transfer is that of Penders, who was signed by Chelsea for 20 million euros after just two league matches.
The battle for Karetsas breaks out
It could well be that Genk completes another mega-transfer soon. Indeed, Konstantinos Karetsas also continues to develop at a rapid pace. The 17-year-old golden boy scored his first goal for Genk's main team against Anderlecht last weekend.
Furthermore, he is increasingly the subject of a battle between Belgium and Greece, who are both trying to get him to play in their national teams. A battle around Karetsas also seems to be taking place at club level.
Genk can hope for tens of millions
Indeed, according to Greek media SPORT24, Chelsea and Arsenal are interested in the talented playmaker. They are said to be increasingly “aggressive” in their attempts to convince him. Therefore, the battle for Karetsas is expected to come to light in 2025.
By then, the first offers could already arrive at Genk. Considering the already significant interest, Karetsas' enormous potential and the fact that Genk recently extended his contract until 2027, his transfer is expected to bring in “tens” of millions.
