Without Wout Van Aert, ill, who withdrew on Sunday, Van der Poel had free rein to showcase his qualities in the Belgian sand. Already a winner in Mol last year, he was able to count on his physical qualities to cross the line with a lead of 1'03 on Monday. At ease in the wooded areas, the 29-year-old runner still had to manage the return of Sweeck at the entrance to the beach, but ended up settling the matter thanks to his power to keep the Belgian at bay, the eighth and final loop more like a lap of honor.
