The Populous architectural firm, known for its large-scale projects in the sporting field, is currently designing several stadiums intended to host the 2030 and 2034 World Cups as well as emblematic renovation projects, such as that of the Meinau stadium in . . François Clément, president of Populous , spoke in an interview given to 20 Minutesproviding insight into current projects and ambitions for Morocco, particularly for the Casablanca stadium.

Asked about the possibility for the Casablanca stadium project to be sized to host a World Cup final, as Morocco wishes, François Clément confirmed that the Hassan II stadium, in Casablanca, will be designed to meet the requirements of FIFA. “The Casablanca stadium was designed to accommodate 115,000 spectators, with the services and infrastructure necessary for the organization of a 2030 FIFA World Cup final, in accordance with FIFA specifications”said the architect. This enclosure will thus be ready to host the major world event.

In addition, the head of Populous also mentioned the Moulay Abdellah stadium in Rabat, which, according to him, was designed to be able to host the semi-finals of the same competition. This stadium, like that of Casablanca, was designed to meet FIFA criteria, thus guaranteeing its ability to host matches of this scale.

Mr. Clément also referred to other stadiums under renovation in Morocco as well as in Spain and Portugal, specifying that these stadiums, although renovated, will have to make concessions on certain criteria to meet the strict requirements of the specifications of the FIFA. “When we talk about renovation or temporary addition of brands and advertising messages, this implies certain limitations compared to FIFA standards”he explained.

The two stadiums mentioned, namely the Hassan II stadium in Casablanca and the Moulay Abdellah stadium in Rabat, would therefore present themselves as modern infrastructures adapted to host the biggest sporting events in the world, including the Football World Cup. These projects are part of a trajectory with great aspirations to support Morocco's position as co-host of the 2030 global competition.
