Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed, on the social network Telegram, the victory of Ukrainian boxer Usyk against Fury this Saturday evening in Riyadh.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated Oleksandr Usyk on Sunday after his victory over Britain's Tyson Fury in Riyadh, which “prove” according to him that the Ukrainians “will never give up” what belongs to them.
After nearly three years of war with Russia and as the Russian army gains ground in the East, Mr. Zelensky judged this result “so important and necessary for all of us right now”.
“Today’s victory is not just yours. This is Ukraine’s victory!”
“By retaining the championship belts, Oleksandr proves that we are Ukrainians and that we will never give up what belongs to us”he greeted on Telegram. “Whatever the difficulties, we will win. Whether in the ring, on the battlefield or in the diplomatic arena.” Seven months after his first victory, the Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk, 37, won on points by unanimous decision, and retains his WBA, WBC and WBO heavyweight belts.
“Congratulations, Oleksandr! Today's victory is not just yours. This is Ukraine’s victory!” welcomed kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, himself a former boxing champion.
