Cayden Primeau is not having a good season. CH goalkeeper #2, who was solid at the end of the season last year, plays like a guy who has lost all his confidence.
A goals allowed average of 4.70 and an efficiency rate of 0.836: it's so difficult for him that even Martin St-Louis seems to have lost confidence in Primeau.
This means that we are starting to discuss other possible options to correct the situation, because at the moment, it is not working. And among these options there is Jakub Dobes.
The CH hope, who has already come close to being recalled, was back from injury yesterday. He stopped 31 of 32 opposing shots in a brilliant performance.
And he even thanked the crowd in French. Hat.
Following his departure yesterday, Dobes now has a 9-3-1 record, a 2.44 goals-against average and a 0.910 save percentage. We understand why the club likes him a lot: he is capable of playing big hockey.
And that’s probably why Primeau must start to fear for his position.
If I were in the GM's position, I would probably opt for Connor Hughes if I had to recall a goalie to be Samuel Montembeault's backup. That said, right now, Dobes is playing like a guy who deserves a chance…and there's a world in which that chance comes sooner rather than later.
Indeed, it should be remembered that at the moment, CH only has 22 players on its active roster. This means that if he wants, he could theoretically recall Dobes without having to remove another player from his active lineup.
So we could call Dobes back to give him a chance without having to immediately get rid of Primeau.
Between now and the Christmas break, CH plays this evening and Monday evening. Samuel Montembeault should be entitled to both starts (this is not confirmed, that said). On the other hand, after the break, the club will travel south of the border for five games… and I wonder if this will be the last chance trip for Primeau.
If the latter gets another start during the trip (twice, the club will play two games in two nights) and he doesn't do the job, maybe we'll give Dobes a chance when he returns from the trip. This is something to watch out for… assuming this time, Dobes doesn't get injured just before being called up.
In burst
– Auston Matthews would have aggravated his injury.
– Damage.
– Another former MVP joins the Yankees.
