MLB : Josh Naylor in Arizona, Carlos Santana with Cleveland

According to MLB tipster Jeff Passan, the Arizona Diamondbacks have acquired first baseman Josh Naylor from the Cleveland Guardians. They then reportedly replaced him immediately by signing veteran Carlos Santana for one season and $12 million.

Two months after losing to the New York Yankees in the American Championship Series, the Guardians continued their exchanges. They traded second baseman Andres Gimenez to the Toronto Blue Jays earlier this offseason. On Saturday, they traded Naylor to acquire right-hander Slade Cecconi as well as draft compensation.

Aged 27, Naylor will be free as the air at the end of the 2025 season. He hit 31 home runs last season, a career high, in addition to collecting 108 RBIs.

For his part, Santana was a consistent player during the first 15 seasons of his career. He started with Cleveland in 2010, before spending 2018 in Philadelphia. He then returned to Cleveland before spending stints with Kansas City, Seattle, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee and Minnesota, the team with which he won the Gold Glove in 2024.

For his part, Cecconi, 25, has seen action in major league baseball over the past two years. He was 2-7 with a 6.66 ERA in 20 games, including 13 starts, in 2024.
