Matt Murray stopped 25 shots in his first start in the NHL in almost 21 months, and the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Buffalo Sabers 6-3 on Friday night.

It was a 12th straight loss for the Sabres, who haven't won since Nov. 23, against the San Jose Sharks.

Max Domi, Bobby McMann and Nicholas Robertson each had a goal and an assist for the Leafs. Auston Matthews, Max Pacioretty and William Nylander also found the back of the net for the Toronto team.

Murray got the start after being recalled from the American League hours earlier. Anthony Stolarz will miss four to six weeks of play due to knee surgery.

JJ Peterka, Mattias Samuelsson and Owen Power each had a goal and an assist for the Sabres. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopped nine shots and was removed from the game after allowing four goals. James Reimer made 15 saves in relief.
