“Now he is showing his true colors. In the last matches, he has been good, but he can still improve,” said the Madrid coach at a press conference. “He is more motivated, more enthusiastic, happy to be here. His period (of adaptation), which he obviously needed, like everyone else, is over,” he added.
Since his arrival in Madrid, from Paris SG, Mbappé, who celebrated his 26th birthday on Friday, has only shown in flashes, between physical glitches, poor form and psychological difficulties, the extent of his talent which makes him the one of the best strikers in the world of football.
The Paris native still scored 13 goals in 23 appearances in all competitions for Real Madrid. But his coach expects much more from his new star, six times in a row top scorer in Ligue 1 before his transfer to one of the biggest clubs in the world where he is still far from his standards.
Out injured in a thigh against Atalanta Bergamo in the Champions League on December 10 and absent last Saturday in La Liga against Rayo Vallecano, Mbappé was one of the scorers for Real Madrid on Wednesday for his return during the 3-0 victory against Pachuca in the final of the Intercontinental Cup.
