It was with regret that Mathieu Joseph saw his brother Pierre-Olivier return to Pittsburgh after only a few months with the St. Louis Blues.
The Penguins reacquired the Quebec defender on Wednesday evening, having let him go on the free agent market this summer. In July, the Blues reunited the Joseph brothers for the first time in ages by acquiring Mathieu from the Ottawa Senators and offering a contract to Pierre-Olivier.

“Obviously, two months was “short and sweet,” admitted the eldest at a press briefing on Thursday. The time we spent together was very special to me and we hope to do it again at another point in our careers.”
“I would have liked it to be longer, but as I said, it’s the reality of the industry,” added Mathieu Joseph. It’s a good thing for him. They wanted to bring him back. I am sure he will flourish there.”
The 27-year-old from Laval also had a thought for his parents, who could finally wear the same uniform to watch their sons’ matches. During the dozen games they played together, they at least accumulated pleasant memories.
“Playing our first match together was really special, especially with our parents in the stands. […] Spending time together on the road or at home was special, because we hadn’t been able to do that for 13 or 14 years,” explained Mathieu Joseph.
The Blues and Penguins will face each other twice this spring, on March 13 and April 3.
