Tuesday, in the Walloon parliament, Liège MP Christie Morreale (PS) questioned the Minister of Mobility (Les Engagés) on the amount of penalties that will be owed by Tram’Ardent due to the postponement of the commercial entry into service of the tram in April 15. A date which has not been announced as certain.
The minister responded that Tram’Ardent presented to the OTW a series of exceptional circumstances to justify its delay. “They are currently being analyzed with regard to contractual provisions. The OTW cannot currently say whether all or only part of the delay is to be borne by Tram’Ardent. The delay announced by Tram’Ardent has no impact on the amount linked to mediation. The delay is two and a half months. This represents around 7 million euros in royalties. This is therefore the issue of current discussions between Tram’Ardent and the OTW“, also indicated F.Desquesnes.
And to add that, according to the information transmitted by the OTW, the drivers will all be trained by the deadline of April 15, 2025.
“Coming to consider, when you have been Minister of Mobility for six months, a file like this by not involving yourself in it personally, you and your cabinet, is likely to not manage things correctly” replied MP Morreale, pointing out a lack of personal involvement by the minister in this matter.
It should also be noted that, compared to an agreement of June 2023 conditioning the additional contribution of 79 million that the Walloon Region had agreed to pay to the Tram’Ardent consortium, we were already talking about penalties estimated at 10 million.
So, is the current slate for the tram line constructor now potentially 10 + 7 million?
Many doubt that a clear answer will ever arrive, which is nevertheless expected.
