Last summer, Mechelen pulled off a nice coup by bringing Benito Raman back to Belgium. The 30-year-old striker had only been playing in Türkiye for six months.
For the moment, we can say that this transfer is a success. Since the start of the season, Raman has already scored 8 eights in 16 matches. On average, he scores a goal every 66 minutes, which is a pretty impressive statistic.
Bad reputation
The former Anderlecht scorer could, however, never have landed in Mechelen. In an interview given to Newspaperhe indeed revealed that he missed a transfer last summer for a rather surprising reason: “I had some contacts with a foreign club, but one of the managers of this club backed out when he heard some rumors about me. That’s why I ended up in Mechelen, and I’m very happy about it.”
A good living
It is true that Raman has already made headlines a few times in the past for non-sporting reasons. It is well known that he likes to drink a beer or go to a nightclub.
That doesn’t worry Raman, however: “You can’t please everyone. I am what I am. As long as I perform well on the pitch, the rest doesn’t matter.”
